The Honourable Company of Master Mariners continue to support Ocean Youth Trust South
The Honourable Company of Master Mariners are proud to continue supporting Ocean Youth Trust South and celebrate this partnership with a new plaque, carried aboard their Sail Training Vessel Prolific, displaying the HCMM court of arms.
Ocean Youth Trust South is charity which uses Adventure Under Sail as a personal development opportunity for young people aged 12-25, taking them to sea in their 30-metre vesselProlific. They sail with around 450 young people each year. Roughly two-thirds will be disadvantaged or vulnerable in some way. OYT South work in partnership with other organisations both to select these young people and also to ensure that lessons learned and achievements enjoyed on a voyage are carried through into a long-term programme of work with each young person.
The Honourable Company support OYT South through part funding of their Staff Cadet, Georgia. Mark Todd, Chief Executive of Ocean Youth Trust South, said: “We are immensely proud that Prolific now carries the court of arms of the Honourable Company of Master Mariners. It recognises the many years of support we have received from them, which currently includes a generous donation towards the salary and training of our Staff Cadet. It is also a symbol of our shared understanding of the value of the sea in helping young people develop the skills to succeed in life.”
Adding to this, Commander Les Chapman, Master of the Honourable Company added “We are very proud of what Georgia has achieved in her career so far and honoured to be part of the funding for her salary with the Ellis Campbell Foundation and Trinity House. As a long term supporter of the excellent personal development of young people delivered by OYT South through HCMM, Trinity House and George Green’s School I am proud to be associated with this programme.”
