HCMM Annual Service & Luncheon 2022
On Friday 10th June 2022 the Honourable Company of Master Mariners held it's first annual service at our affiliated church, St Michael Cornhill, since 2019. It was lovely to see members attending, both new members and those who have supported this event over many years.
(Left to right: the Learned Clerk, Scott Hanlon; Warden Mr Matt Burrow; Immediate Past Master, Commander Les Chapman; our Honorary Chaplain, the Rev. Reg Sweet; the Master, Captain Robin Batt; the Curate, the Rev. Henry Eatock-Taylor; the Senior Warden, Captain Geoff English; Warden Captain Peter McArthur; and the Assistant Clerk, Bill Collier).
Our Honorary Chaplain, the Reverend Reginald Sweet BA RN was joined by the new Curate at St Michael's, the Reverend Henry Eatock-Taylor MA. The Processional Hymn was Praise, my soul, the King of Heaven which was led by the wonderful choir of St Michael's, directed by their Director of Music Mr Jonathan Rennert MA.
The Master read the lesson, taken from the Gospel according to Mark, chapter 4 verses 35-41.
35On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them,“Let us cross over to the other side.”36Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him.37And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling.38But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him,“Teacher,do You not care that we are perishing?”
39Then He arose andrebuked the wind, and said to the sea,“Peace,be still!”And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.40But He said to them,“Why are you so fearful?Howis itthat you have no faith?”41And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, “Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!”
Our closing hymn was Eternal Father and the service was concluded with the National Anthem. Members were then welcomed back onboard our floating livery hall, HQS WELLINGTON, for a delightful luncheon provided by our excellent caterers Seahorse Hospitality.
